Bert and Bernadette – New Zealand and Lop Rabbits

Buck and Doe
Approx. 2 years old
Arrived 16th and 23rd November, 2021
Boarded at Rode Heath

This delightful pair of bunnies came in via RSPCA Inspectors. The elderly owner became unwell and, in and out of hospital, couldn’t look after them properly and so contacted the RSPCA for help. He bred the rabbits to show them, there were 22 rabbits in total, all kept in tiny breeding boxes.  It really is unacceptable that rabbits are kept this way. Thankfully all the rabbits will find amazing homes with space and freedom to live a normal happy life.

Bert arrived first, then Bernadette arrived later; in Bert’s excitement of being reunited he hurt one of his eyes slightly so was treated for that and, dare we say it, overused his man parts! He has now had the all-clear from the vet.

They had their metal leg rings removed, were neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Bernadette had overgrown claws. But other than that they were in good condition.

They are gorgeous, they are getting friendlier, Bert is quite cuddly when you have to pick him up and they are quite large rabbits.

Housing requirement is a minimum 6ft shed or 6 x 2 x 2 hutch plus minimum 60 sq. feet of floor space. If a run it has to be 3ft in height with ideally the freedom to a secure garden/alternative area for stimulation; exercise, space and enrichment is most important!
